Hollywood wins Internet piracy battle

as CNN points out, "The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that software companies can be held liable for copyright infringement when individuals use their technology to download songs and movies illegally."

What can I say, 5 years ago I would say at this point that well, people are idiots and that is the only explanation. Today, I am just a bit smarter. Of course they are not that stupid. They simply have a strong economic incentive (and power). The only reason why a ruling like this can happen is because of persistent interest from powerful sources.

And if ANYBODY needs some direction for his thoughts to see how ridicules this is, in the US, a gun company is NOT liable when terrorist or criminals use their products to kill innocent civilians. Ha yes, and guns of course, especially the automatic ones like m-16 have TONS of legitimate use in a civil society...

not to forget the kitchen utensils companies, making those dangerous objects we call "knifes". how many people die by the illegitimate use of those objects? can we start suing companies making kitchen knifes?
